Back from Tahoe

I rode in America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 's Team in Training a week and a half ago. I have lots to write, but not a lot of time, so I'll start with just a little.

It was 100 miles around the lake. I'm a veteran of DC AIDS Ride 7 and the Tour de Friends but my butt has never been kicked as badly as it was that day. The altitude got to me pretty bad and there were two major climbs, but I was riding for two friends--Kate and Maddy--and I had a name on each sleeve. This sounds trite, but what I had to go through is nothing like what they had to go through and I would look down at their names whenever I was struggling. Which was often, frankly, especially miles 50 to 70 and then 81 to 89 (which were all uphill). I got through it, but not by myself.

Welcome home! I'm looking forward to your story. Maddy used to bike too, you know, as well as run, so I'm sure she was there, cackling as you sweated!

No, not cackling. Well, okay, cackling, too, but not before nagging you to keep drinking plenty of water and electrolytes, and stay stretched and relaxed, and not to strain your knees, and all manner of other helpful (and not so helpful) tips.

And Kate can take Maddy's place cosseting you now that you're back home.

You did good.

Woo hoo! Congratulations and welcome back. You done good.

Also, can I just say that finding out that Madeleine ran. Like RAN. Races. And Exercised. Well, it could have come out that she was her own grandma, and I couldn't have been any more floored. Not that she didn't look fit, I just project my own sloth and loathing of activity on to those I love.

So you're a giant couch potato in my heart, Will!

Heh. Madeleine and I teamed up to run in the Central Park New Year's Eve 5K race in, um, 1998 (had to think about that, because the race began just after midnight). In costume. It was loads of fun, and I still have the t-shirt. But I'm not sure if it was more surprising at the time or in retrospect, or which of us inspired the most bewildered reactions.

If I knew people read this, I would have posted more recently.

I think she was there and was cackling, supportive, and a little punishing at the same time. Which would be what you would expect.

Don't check your info page too often, do you? You are friended by no less illustrious a group than: alice_q, brooklynite, chi_editrix, eeminy, iayork, jenniferm, oddprofessor, seanzo, x_h00ine.

Now you just have to figure out who we all are.

Info page?

Yeah, your default layout should have a link to a "user info" page. Explore!

As Alice says, click on "user info" on your main page, and you'll get taken here: http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=willwheels.

It shows the people you've friended ([info]brooklynite) and all the people who've friended you.

Thanks, I'll work on that.

Are you guys alerted when something new is posted, or do you not have lives, or what?

Yes. No. Posted where?

If a comment is posted to my own blog by someone, I get e-mail. If I post a comment to a blog, I get e-mail. If someone posts in answer to a comment of mine, I get e-mail. I do not get e-mail if someone in my friends' list posts to his/her own blog. I just obsessively check my friends' page, which gathers the most recent posts of everyone I have listed as a friend, but not people who have friended me whom I have not friended back.

It's really not that complicated.

To change your colors, you have to go to your "user info" page, look at the menu in the blue line under the top cell, go to "manage" and thence to "customize." You're geeky enough to figure it out from there.

Oh, I bet it's just a sad attempt to shun the rest of us for previous mocking incidents. We all know [info]brooklynite is the cool one.

But dude, some of your pages (like this response form) have this white-on-white thing going on. What's with that?

Don't attribute to malice what you can attribute to stupidity.

Paul mentioned the white-on-white thing too. I'll see if I can fix it.
